Hi, I'm Calvert Lawson, a Midlands-based musician, youth worker and African percussionist. I'm of Jamaican origin and I enjoy working with young people and am experienced in working with challenging behaviours and special needs.
I’ve delivered African drumming workshops for around 18 years in schools, at community events and at public gatherings and have worked as drum facilitator for a local authority in Wolverhampton for the last 6 years.
Kalillo is an affectionate name I got in Gambia, West Africa, while I was staying with the drum and dance troupe Fatala in 2003. They're based in Kotu, an area near the town of Serrakunda in the west. After I returned from Serrakunda, I was so inspired that I set up Kalillo Drumming Workshops.

I wanted to share my learning with local communities and began delivering drumming workshops to young people and adults. Within a few months I was being called on for my drumming services for all kinds of events, such as christenings, weddings, jamming with DJs, naming ceremonies, Kwanzaa, Black History Month and other community drumming events.
